Discipline or self-discipline is the willingness to control or correct ourselves in order to be better.
"I keep my body under control and make it my slave, so I won't lose out after telling the good news to others."

1st KL GB Christmas Musical 2011 – Christmas in Reverse

Christmas in Reverse basically tells the story of how Christmas came to be. This musical starts off at the manger scene where the shepherds, wise men, Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus are gathered. With the choir singing the story in the background, the narrators move on to tell the story of why Christ came to earth. Christmas in Reverse takes us back to the very beginning – the Garden of Eden. There we see how man first sinned and how they were separated from God at that moment. Next, the musical shows the time of Noah and the ark. During Noah’s time, there were many sinful people. God was not pleased with the evil and sinful people and only found Noah and his family worthy to be saved. God told Noah to build an ark and gather 2 of every species of animals. People around Noah and his family thought that he had gone crazy and did not believe him when he said a big flood was coming. Soon the flood came and it rain continuously for 40 days and 40 nights. When the flood was over, God sent the rainbow as His covenant towards the people and as a promise that He shall never again flood the earth. Many years later, Jesus was sent to earth by God through a virgin named Mary, who was betrothed to a carpenter named Joseph. She conceived Jesus through the Holy Spirit and Christ Jesus was born in Bethlehem in a stable.

This production had been in planning since early 2011. When the practices began around early July we, the girls, were so excited and couldn’t wait for everything to come together. In the beginning, we only practiced on Saturdays. However, as the day drew closer, we started having practices on Sundays and even weekdays! We really wanted to put on a great show. As each practice went by, the excitement and intensity of practices grew too. We had a camp during the school holidays so we could really put our whole hearts to it. During that time, we memorized lyrics, sang and danced our hearts out and also bonded. We began to see the many different sides of all our friends and how they handle situations.

The weekend of the musical arrived. On the 3rd of December, it was a Saturday. It was THE day. Our hearts were all pumping with adrenalin. Many were nervous but excitement was definitely in the air. Everyone in the production, from the cast of around 15, to the choir of nearly 25 girls, to the crew, everyone was rushing back and forth making the final adjustments. We all arrived at 10 in the morning to start preparing. Soon, time flew by and it was 3pm. It was our first show for the day. This show was put for the benefit of the other Girls’ Brigade and Boys’ Brigade companies. Many companies came to support us. The first show flew by quickly and was a success. After a few hours of rest, it was yet again another Showtime for us at 8.30pm. This time the audience consisted of the supportive parents of the girls and church members. As the night drew to a close, we were all exhausted but looking forward to our last and final show the following day.

Sunday, 4th of December was the last day we were going to perform our entire musical. After practicing for many months, we were all determined to give it our best as part of the grand finale. That evening, the realization of performing this musical for the congregation came to us and we gave it our all. We all truly enjoyed ourselves. Through all the hardships and trials throughout the entire process, we overcame it and our 3 shows had been a success. We had our last round of fellowship with everyone involved in the production after our 8.30pm show and bade our goodbyes after that. We all went home exhausted and happy that it came to an end with a bang. Most of us did miss the practices and the songs in the beginning, but we have all learnt to cherish our memories from this production.

Overall, this would not have been a success without the guidance from the Almighty One. We all truly thanked God for His continuous blessings towards us. Indeed He has been nothing but a great and faithful God towards us. As Luke 1:37 “For nothing is impossible with God” what we thought was a near impossible feat was made possible.

7th National Drill Camp

On the 12th to 15th of March 2011...
a total of 11 girls from 1st KL GB went for the GBM 7th National Drill Camp. The girls that represented 1st KL GB in the camp were Aileen, Kar Mun, Yen, Yen May, Yen Qi, Meagan, Presheelah, Queenie, Sarah, Susanna and Yeen Yeen. This camp was held in Wesley Methodist School Sentul, Kuala Lumpur. There were 25 companies with 25 officers and 125 girls in this camp.

The purpose of drill in GB was...
1) to promote habits of
  • Obedience and Discipline.
  • Self-respect
  • Self-control
  • Concentration
  • Physical bearing
2) to develop leadership

3) to encourage Esprit-De-Corps

During the camp, we participated in drill, worship, drill theory lessons, Sunday service, drill, team building, drill, pajamas nite and more drill! This was definitely a drill camp! 1st KL also got an opportunity to lead in worship on the 3rd night right before Pajamas Nite lead by W/O Felicia and W/O Shana.

For drill sessions, we were separated into 3 different categories according to our level of knowledge for drill. there was basic, intermediate, and advance level. I'm glad to say that representing 1st KL, there were a total of 3 girls in the intermediate level and 8 girls in the advance level. We all went through hours under the hot sun learning from the drill instructors and the police.

The obvious winner as the best part of the camp was the Pajamas Nite. It was a night filled with fun, laughter, and MORE FUN! We played games and even had a modelling competition for the best pajamas of the night! It was definitely a time to unwind after those tiresome hours of drill..

Then the awaited time to show what we have learned came.. Drill Competition! This time it was done differently. The drill teams weren't made by each company. The team that went out for the competition, it was a mixture of different girls from different companies. There were two different drill categories which had the competition. The intermediate level and the advance level. Each level had 4 drill teams. After the drill competition among all the teams were over, it was time for the individual drill down.. Each of the drill team were to send their two best girls for the drill down, which made a total of 8 girls in each category. 1st KL was proud to be represented by 3 girls in the ADVANCE category. Here are the results for the advance category..

Individual Drill Down Advance
1st Place - Queenie Yin 1st KL
2nd Place - 1st Teluk Intan
3rd Place - Leong Yen May 1st KL

4th Place - Aileen Cheong 1st KL

Throughout this camp, we all learned the proper techniques of executing the drill commands both by the police and the GB. We improved a lot BUT there is still room for improvement, as Ms. Felicia said. Besides that, we also learned 3 main points from the morning devotions which were to be humble, have an interest of others other than yourself and to rely on strength from God. Fact that cannot be denied is that all of us went home tanner than when we went for camp but we all have to admit that we did enjoy ourselves at a certain time in camp.

2011 A New Year

Hey all!

It is a new year! This is a time to celebrate. New beginnings, new hopes, new friends, new reforms, new initiatives, new looks and a new welcome!

What are your purposes or plans for this new year?

Great minds have purposes, others have wishes. Put purposes in your life. Be resolute. Never submit to passiveness. Be a towering tree- not a driftwood. Drifting is dangerous, for the course of least resistance points down-stream.

Pain and suffering are inevitable in life. But being miserable is optional. We can choose to be cheerful or depressed. The choice is ours.

Therefore, look to this day. A quote i found:

'Today' a is life, the very life of life
'Yesterday is a dream
'Tomorrow' is only a vision.

But to-day, well lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Make your life worthwhile and meaningful! Don't waste those days rotting away in front of the computer doing pointless things!
Go to GB! especially 1st KL GB. HAHA.

Have a blessed year ahead! God bless.
Love,
1st KL
